Introducing the Definitive CUPRA Leon VZ

CUPRA is once again setting the standard for the performance hatchback segment. Say hello to the Leon VZ, a limited-run model that's officially the most powerful front-wheel drive car the brand has ever produced.

This isn't just a simple tune-up. The VZ has been dialed in using technology and knowledge pulled straight from CUPRA’s motorsports program, particularly the successful Leon VZ TCR. The goal was simple: take the most dynamic car in the lineup and push it to its absolute peak.

The heart of the VZ is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It delivers a hefty 325 PS (239 kW) and 420 Nm of torque, making it a true high-performance machine. Power is handled by a responsive 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

If you like numbers, here’s what matters: the car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, and the exhilaration is amplified by the fact that the top speed has been delimited to 270 km/h, placing the CUPRA Leon VZ firmly in the upper echelon of hot hatch capability.

Putting that kind of power down in a front-wheel-drive car takes serious engineering. The Leon VZ sits on the robust MQB Evo platform, and the chassis is reinforced to match the engine’s credentials.

Up front, traction and stability are maintained by an integrated electronic differential lock (VAQ) that constantly monitors the wheels and steering. It uses real-time data to subtly shift power, making sure the car stays balanced and composed, even when driven to its limits.

The suspension setup features a classic combination of front MacPherson struts and rear multilink suspension. The springs and dampers have been specifically calibrated for the VZ’s needs, striking a refined balance between daily comfort and track responsiveness.

The handling features are equally focused: progressive steering gives you sharp, immediate feedback, and Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) lets you fine-tune the suspension feel on the fly, adjusting the setup in milliseconds to whatever the road throws at you.

When it comes to stopping power, CUPRA didn’t compromise. The VZ is fitted with dedicated Akebono brakes featuring 6-piston calipers, giving you total confidence and precision no matter the speed.

The VZ looks the part, too, without shouting about it. You’ll notice the signature copper quad exhaust pipes that provide a deep, evocative sound that mirrors the car’s dynamic spirit. Inside, the design keeps things sophisticated. You’ll find dark chrome finishes, even on the subtle satellite control buttons, adding a touch of modern, sporty elegance.

If you want one, you’ll need to move fast. Production is capped at just 1,500 units worldwide. The Leon VZ is being designed and built in Barcelona, with the limited run rolling out from CUPRA’s Martorell headquarters in the first quarter of 2026.
