Collaboration with the CUPRA Tribe
The DarkRebel, conceptualised entirely within CUPRA’s virtual environment, symbolises a forward-thinking approach to automotive design and manufacture. The design process benefited from the insights of over 270,000 configurations from the CUPRA Tribe, including input from FC Barcelona players and actor Daniel Brühl. This collaborative design process culminated in the creation of a 100% electric two-seat sports car in an enigmatic mercury body colour.
Interior Design and Digital Integration
The DarkRebel’s cabin combines technological innovation with avant-garde design, featuring standout components like the central spine and Supersport bucket seats, which are produced using advanced technologies. Moreover, the car’s user experience and interface design seamlessly merge the physical with the digital, for a transformative experience.
CUPRA DarkRebel Design Highlights:
Innovative Design Fusion: Combining over 270,000 CUPRA Tribe configurations and input from brand ambassadors, the DarkRebel features a distinctive electric shooting brake design with an enigmatic liquid-esque exterior and iconic triangular lighting for a bold statement.
Sporty Dimensions: With 4.5 metres in length, 2.2 metres in width, and 1.3 metres in height, the DarkRebel comes to life, especially when its doors open to a height of 2.2 metres.
Advanced Interior and Comfort: The cockpit showcases a sculptural central spine made using 3D metal printing for structural lightness, alongside Supersport bucket seats with glass and copper inserts, all within an environment enhanced by interactive lighting and digital integration for an immersive experience.
Performance and Sustainability: With an electric powertrain, the DarkRebel delivers an engaging driving experience through a racing-inspired, interactive steering wheel and a tactile glass gear shifter, supported by an intelligent climate control system and sustainable materials such as 90% biodegradable bamboo to create dynamic cabin lighting effects.
Seamless Digital Integration: Offering three unique UX/UI experiences, the DarkRebel merges physical and digital realms, redefining automotive interaction and ensuring an immersive journey.
At the car's recent debut in Munich, Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA highlighted "The CUPRA DarkRebel is the maximum provocation of CUPRA design. It is a rebel with a purpose: to prove that electric cars in the future can be sexy and emotional”.
Jorge Díez, CUPRA’s Head of Design, echoed this sentiment, underlining the DarkRebel’s role in pushing the limits of traditional automotive design – “The Dark Rebel represents the ultimate expression of our CUPRA DNA but now without limits, a car with one mission: to boost your emotions.”
